Use other apps while playing?

General Support Forum

Submitted by StuartV on 8/28/08 10:15 PM.

Is there a way to leave the Moodio player playing while I go back to my Home screen and use other apps on my phone?

I tried BerryTunes and, with that, I can start a stream playing from an Internet radio station, then hit the End key to get back to the Home screen, then go into email or whatever, all the while BerryTunes keeps playing.

Moodio won't be that useful to me if I have to stop it playing every time I need to read or send an email.

Thanks.

Seems like Moodio only wants to use Blackberry Media player. You can't multitask to email, no screen saver, and stops playing when you holster the phone. Very very limited player unfortunately and looks like nobody cares everytime I posted something like this.

I'm going to look into berrytunes then. I really like moodio and its free, but the lack of multitasking (and any feedback from moodio on this issue) is quickly becoming a deal killer.

Hit the button to the left of the trackball. Scroll down to Switch Application. Use trackball and choose. I believe the last 5 applications are there. 1 always being the home screen which is represented by a couch. Try that. The only thing you can't do is go to another website. Unless you have another browser installed. Oh, and I have my phone in the holster all the time while I'm listening to Moodio.

You must be using a different phone or OS than us. I'm using an 8830WE on Verizon with OS 4.5.0.77

When I (we) do as you suggest as soon as I (we) hit the menu button (the button you are referring to which is to the left of the trackball) the sound drops and the stream closes. No exceptions. If it worked as you suggest there would be no problem to report.

I'm having the same problem with a Pearl 8130 on Virgin Mobile Canada. OS is 4.5.

If someone from moodio could just give us a statement of acknowledgement about this that would be great. something like...

"Hey guys, thanks for using moodio. We know about the problem with multitasking on some versions of the blackberry OS. We are working to address the problem. We hope to have a solution by (insert date here) and a workaround in the next few (days?, weeks? months?)

The versions that support multitasking with moodio are (x,y,z). We will post a notice here and on our the other blackberry forums when we have a fix. Thanks for your patience."

I agree with you...

The weird thing is that I saw someone over a forum that have to same exact device as I have (Same OS, same provider, etc...) and he dont have this problem while I have it...

OK, here's a quick note from Oele @ Moodio.

I'm sorry but i have just been to busy doing other things lately. I hope i'll find some time to go through the rest of the forum postings and answer some questions somewhere in the near future - probably next week or so.

About your specific problem: Moodio is a service that converts internet radio streams to a format that mobile phones understand. This is a standard called 3gpp. BlackBerry is just one of the many brands of cellphones that support the 3gpp streaming standard. I don't own a BlackBerry and don't know anyone around here that does - they are not as popular in the Netherlands as they apparently are in the States. So, everything i know about BlackBerry phones is what i read in this and other forums.

If i understand it correctly there is a problem on some BlackBerry OS'es with multitasking while playing streaming media. This is (must be) a generic problem with all media streams. You'll probably see the same symptoms on other streaming sites like m.youtube.com. If you want this problem to be solved, i guess you'll have to ask RIM to fix this in their next OS release. I'm affraid there isn't much that we at Moodio can do about it.
